- INVENTION OF MECHANICAL CLOCK: 13th century
-
- Although the exact origin of mechanical clocks is
- unknown, several recorded examples appeared in the
- 14th century. They tended to be huge and inaccurate
- devices. One such clock built by Henry De Vick for
- the royal palace in Paris was powered by a 500 pound
- weight which descended over 32 feet.
